A New Year, A New

Hello fellow fiber enthusiast,

Today I am writing about a brand-new year, and a new way of looking at things.  I am not sure if you are aware of what the new Pantone color for 2019 is…. Living Coral

“Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.

In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.

Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media. ´ -Pantone

I drew a few things from this description that will set the tone for 2019.  It appears many of the things that I am reading these days, in my attempt to keep up with the ever-changing retail world, goes back to the importance of the customer experience.  A part of me says…” Well, duh?”  How is this a new revelation?  That is something that has always been the most important aspect of our store, the experience that you feel when you are in our community.  The community that we have worked so hard to build over the last 8 years is what keeps this store’s lights on.  I hope that every time you come in, you feel our appreciation for your choice to continue being a part of this Twisted Community.

I want you to feel you are in a space where there are no mistakes, only variation.  Where you have the courage to try something new and immerse yourself in our creative energy and feed you creative beast.  A place where you can come and connect with an old memory or make a new friend.  We will continue to work hard and be purposeful in our pursuit to provide you with this experience every time you cross our threshold.

I want to move forward into 2019 with purpose.  I don’t know if any of you do this, but when I see something that is pretty, I want to buy it.  I don’t take the time to research where it came from and how it got onto the display in front of me.  All I know is that it is pretty, and I think it would make my life a little sweeter to have it in it.  I must admit, that is kind of how I buy yarn for the store.  I feel like there isn’t much more thought that goes in to it.  Ever get the pretty thing home and a week later think, “Why did I find this so pretty?”  It might be fun, but I have decided that it is time to put on my big girl pant suit and start being more purposeful. So, what does that look like?  It starts with educating myself and making sure that the Twisted Staff is also educated on the product.  Knowing who we are buying from, what their process is, from the back of the sheep to when hits our shelves. I have begun researching the processes and am learning about the environmental impacts.  I think I always known issues existed, sometimes it is just easier not know.  This year I will continue to educate myself on who we buy yarn from and who they buy yarn from.

Trace it back to the farmer and their flock of sheep, alpaca, goats etc. I want to know the sheep are well cared for.  From there I want to understand the milling process and want to ensure that someone is not being exploited as the fleece becomes that twisted gem we love so much.  I want to know what the dyer is doing to lessen their impact on the environment around them.  I don’t anticipate this keeping us from providing you with the wonderful selection we now offer.  I know that it will mean more to me and my twisted team to know that we are doing what we can to support those that are making the effort to have better business practices that will benefit their communities and environments.

I hope over the coming year to share with you what I have learned on this journey.  So, for now? Enjoy…FEEDING YOUR BEAST!!
